Cellulite
Seen mostly around the thighs, hips and buttocks, cellulite is a common affliction which occurs in 85 to 98% of postpubertal women. The appearance of cellulite is caused by a variety of factors, such as hormonal changes, inadequate diet, lack of exercise and water consumption, as well as certain drugs and caffeine consumption. Frustratingly, getting rid of cellulite can be very difficult yet thankfully mesotherapy offers a non-invasive and effective treatment.
At Clinica Jóia, we use a chemical treatment for cellulite reduction. This incorporates the superficial application of lipolytic (fat dissolving) mesotherapy based around the use of the active ingredient deoxycholate to leave you with a smooth and toned looking body you’ll be proud to show off.

Typical Uses
Mesotherapy cellulite treatment helps to:
- Reduce cellulite dimpling
- Tone and rejuvenate the skin
- Recontour select areas of the body
Whilst Mesotherapy holds a variety of advantages, opting for this procedure is a highly personal decision. You should only do it for yourself and never to fulfill someone else’s desires or to attempt to fit any sort of ideal image.
What It Entails
Mesotherapy uses deoxycholate to reduce the appearance of cellulite. The procedure involves very fine needles which are injected beneath the skin’s surface around the affected area. The injected acid then works to break-down the fat cells beneath the skin, remove the broken-down fat into the body’s lymphatic system and stimulate collagen production. Whilst one session will instantly show a difference, when this is done over a course of 4 to 6 treatment sessions the results are more striking and pleasingly effective.
How It Works
1.During the consultation
If you are interested in getting mesotherapy, you should start by booking a consultation with our clinic doctor. During the consultation, you will be able to express what you are hoping to gain from this treatment and, after reviewing your medical history, our doctor will be able to determine whether you are eligible to undergo this type of procedure. If you are a viable candidate, our doctor will then discuss an appropriate treatment plan so that you may achieve optimal results.
2.During the procedure
When it comes to the treatment itself, tiny droplets of deoxycholate – combined with a dose of anaesthetic for ensured painlessness – are injected just below the skin surface through a fine needle. This helps to break-down the fat cells beneath the skin, remove the broken-down fat into the body’s lymphatic system and stimulate collagen production.
3.After the treatment
After the treatment you will receive important post-treatment guidelines. It is normal to experience some side effects, such as redness, swelling, tenderness and possibly some bruising around the treated site. These residual effects generally disappear within a few days and you may resume work straight after the procedure.
