Dermal Fillers

As the skin matures, it undergoes significant changes. Slowly, the skin start to lose its ability to produce essential organic components like hyaluronic acid and collagen, leading to a loss of elasticity and smoothness. As youthful looking skin starts to sag and develop wrinkles, many will be looking for the best cosmetic procedure to keep their skin looking beautifully supple.

Whether seeking to smooth out facial lines, re-shape a particular area on your body or add plumpness, ‘dermal fillers’ offer a simple but effective solution to premature signs of ageing. Using organically sourced hyaluronic acid (HA), this gel-like substance is expertly injected into the skin, adding fullness and smoothing out any facial creases. At Clinica Jóia, we offer a variety of HA dermal fillers – Restylane®, Juvederm®, Teoxane® and Perfectha® brands – to suit the needs of every client.

Typical Uses

Dermal Fillers are a great option to consider if you wish to:

At Clinica Jóia, we offer a variety of HA dermal fillers including the Restylane®, Belotero®, Juvederm®, Teoxane® and Perfectha® brands.

We also also offer a form of polycaprolactone filler called Ellansé. Like HA fillers, Ellansé reduces the appearance of wrinkles and folds but also stimulates collagen production. This added stimulation truly treats the underlying causes of facial ageing, thus producing longer-lasting results.

What It Entails

During the treatment, a topical anaesthetic is applied to the area to ensure minimal discomfort. Once the anaesthetic has worked its magic, our expert doctor carefully injects the chosen dermal filler under the skin to create a smoother and more youthful look.

How It Works

1.During the consultation

If you are interested in dermal fillers, you should start by booking a consultation with our clinic doctor. During the consultation, you will be able to express what you are looking to achieve and our doctor will be able to draw up the ideal treatment plan for you, making sure you achieve optimal results.

2.During the procedure

Before arriving for your treatment, you will be asked to avoid taking aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or any other type of medication that may affect your bleeding. During the treatment itself, a topical anaesthetic is first applied to the area being treated and, once the anaesthetic has worked its magic, the procedure may begin.

3. After the treatment

Post-treatment, an ice-pack may be applied to the treated area and our health-care practitioner will be able to provide you with the relevant information for your post-treatment routine. This often includes simple tips such as sleeping propped up and face up to avoid excess swelling.

Frequently Asked Questions

It is possible to experience side effects from dermal fillers such as injection-site redness, swelling, pain, tenderness, firmness, lumps/bumps, bruising, discoloration, and itching. However, this varies from person to person and not everyone will experience the same symptoms. As with all skin injection procedures, there is a risk of infection, so we advise following a strict aseptic technique.

Longevity depends on various factors, such as a person’s metabolic rate,  lifestyle habits - such as smoking - and the product used. Most HA fillers tend to last anywhere between 3 to 12 months. However other brands such as Ellansé can last from 1 to 3 years. So, to keep the results at an optimal level you top-up treatments are needed.

When done correctly, dermal fillers will look beautifully natural. Harbouring an extensive knowledge of facial anatomy, our expert doctor seeks to enhance the client's natural facial features.

Follow-Up Procedures

Since dermal fillers are not permanent, you will need top-up treatments to keep your results at an optimal level. The frequency of these top-ups will depend on the amount and type of filler used, where the filler is injected, and other individual factors, such as the clients’ metabolic rate and lifestyle habits.
