Skin Mesotherapy
With age, the skin starts to lose its youthful glow, developing fine lines, sagging skin and an uneven skin tone. This is why, at Clinica Jóia, we offer a number of treatments that seek to rejuvenate the skin. Mesotherapy is a non-surgical skin cosmetic treatment that is aimed at improving problem areas on the face using hyaluronic acid. In the body, natural hyaluronic acid forms quickly and degrades in 24 to 48 hours. However with mesotherapy, hyaluronic acid is injected directly into the mesoderm (middle layer of the skin), to promote the production of collagen and elastin. This helps to nourish and refresh the skin, whilst effectively stimulating the skin’s metabolism.
We make use of the brands Restylane Skinbooster® and Juvederm Volite®. These injectables are specifically designed to refine and recapture the youthful appearance of the skin. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane Skin booster® and Juvederm Volite® lasts longer – from several months up to a year – with degradation being delayed through the cross-linking of the hyaluronic acid molecules. Through this state-of-the-art approach, the hyaluronic acid forms small “reservoirs” of moisture beneath the skin’s surface, giving the skin long-lasting hydration and radiance.

Typical Uses
When looking at skin rejuvenation options, clients typically seek to treat:
- Dehydrated skin
- Dry, crepey looking skin
- Fine lines at rest, décolleté, and hands
- The smiling lines; better known as ‘Crow’s feet’
- Frowning lines
- Horizontal Forehead Lines
Restylane Skinbooster® and Juvederm Volite® are both injectables which use hyaluronic acid to rejuvenate the skin. Unlike naturally produced hyaluronic acid, Restylane Skin booster® and Juvederm Volite® use specially engineered formulas – with cross-linked hyaluronic acid molecules – that can last from several months up to a year. This treatment ensures prolonged skin hydration and an appealing youthful glow.
What It Entails
When opting for mesotherapy, a long-lasting form of hyaluronic acid is injected just beneath the skin’s surface to provide essential hydration. This initial treatment can last up to 12 months but it is recommended that top up treatments are done every 4 to 6 months to maintain these rejuvenating results.
How It Works
1.During the consultation
If you are interested in getting mesotherapy, you should start by booking a consultation with our clinic doctor. During the consultation, you will be able to express what you are hoping to gain from this treatment and, after reviewing your medical history, our doctor will be able to determine whether you are eligible to undergo this type of procedure. You should also inform your practitioner if you have received previous aesthetic treatments, both surgical and non-surgical. If you are a viable candidate, our doctor will then discuss an appropriate treatment plan so that you may achieve optimal results.
2.During the procedure
When it comes to the treatment itself, tiny droplets of hyaluronic acid will be injected just below the skin surface through a fine needle to rehydrate your skin. Depending on the area undergoing treatment, a procedure takes approximately 15-45 minutes. To achieve optimal results, a treatment program usually starts with 3 treatment sessions, 2/4 weeks apart. After these initial treatments, maintenance treatments are typically recommended every 4 to 6 months to ensure lasting results.
3.After the treatment
After the treatment you will receive important post-treatment guidelines. It is normal to experience some side effects, such as redness, swelling, pain, itching, bruising or tenderness at the treatment site. These issues generally disappear within a few days or up to two weeks after the injection procedure.

Frequently Asked Questions
Pin prick bruising and mild swelling are the commonest of side effects which subside within a few days. An ice pack post procedure and application of arnica gel will help with resolving these side effects more efficiently.
The ideal regime will be suggested to you during a consultation, but treatments can be done as close as 8 weeks.
Whilst several treatments are required to produce a fully satisfactory result, you will be able to see the benefits of it within three weeks of receiving the first treatment.
Follow-Up Procedures
Since mesotherapy treatments are long-lasting but not permanent, it is recommended that you schedule top-up treatments to maintain the results achieved in the initial treatments. Top-up procedures will most likely require lower volumes of hyaluronic acid, depending on the area of injection and the time gaps between the treatments. Both Restylane Skin Booster® and Juvederm Volite® treatment plans provide impressive results that can last up to 12 months.
Such treatment can be combined with most of our skin rejuvenating treatments such as botox, dermal fillers and also IPL.
