Thread Lifts

As we age, the skin starts to sag and lose its youthful quality. This is why here, at Clinica Jóia, we offer a minimally invasive alternative to face-lift surgery called suture lifts. This cosmetic procedure works by implanting thread-like sutures with hooks to lift any sagging skin and achieve a fresher, tighter and smoother look.

At Clinica Jóia, we work with the FDA approved Silhouette Soft® and Aptos® brands, both of which are designed to lift and tighten sagging tissue around the mid to lower areas of the face. To redefine facial features by elevation, we use resorbable sutures composed of polylactic acid, with bidirectional cones made from a blend of lactic acid (82%) and glycolic copolymer (18%).

What It Entails

During the procedure, our specialised doctor will start by making a tiny incision above the hair line or near the earlobe. This is then followed by the insertion of a number of sutures which work to pull back and suitably lift any sagging skin.

As suture lifts are an outpatient procedure the client remains awake and alert during the procedure, but pain-free through the use of local anaesthesia.

How It Works

1.During the consultation

During the consultation, you will be able to express what you are looking to achieve, and our specialised doctor will guide you towards a variety of treatment options that best suit your needs. The consultation will also help to determine whether you are a good candidate for the procedure and indicate how you should proceed.

2.During the procedure

During the procedure, all steps are taken to reduce the risk of contamination through strict sterile procedures and the wearing of a head cap. With these procedures in place, a dose of local anaesthesia is administered to ensure that you remain pain-free but awake and alert. Then, our expert doctor proceeds to perform a tiny incision in the temporal region of the face (just above the hairline, or near the earlobe) and, depending on the desired lift, a number of sutures are inserted to help lift up the skin. This treatment lasts approximately one hour, and you may leave immediately after completing this cosmetic procedure.

3.After the treatment

Once the treatment is over, it is recommended that you stay away from direct sunlight and sleep with your head elevated and your face away from the pillow. Whilst some may experience some mild soreness and notice swelling and bruising, most people are able to resume normal activities within two to four days and the skin will resume its natural appearance within 10 days.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any side effects?

With suture lifts the side effects are minimal. However, clients may experience some swelling, bruising, bleeding and minor pain around the treated area

How long do suture threads last?

Suture lifts tend to last 18 months or longer. As soon as the effects wear off, we recommend scheduling a follow up treatment to maintain that gorgeous, youthful-looking skin.

Are suture lifts safe?

Suture lift procedures are quite safe and carry a very minimal risk of infection. Unlike face lifts, suture lifts do not require any downtime and do not leave any scarring or severe bruising.

Follow-Up Procedures

For a more holistic approach, thread lift procedures may be combined with most of our non-invasive skin treatments. The skin can be initially prepped with an exfoliating chemical peel and after the lift, dermal fillers, and botulinum toxin can complete the look by improving the volume and smoothness of the skin.
