Face and Neck Lift
With time, our skin starts to lose its elasticity leading our once silky smooth face and neck to sag and develop unwanted wrinkles, deep folds and loose skin. As the skin continues to lose its buoyancy, you will undoubtedly notice your face and neck start to lose their shape underneath flabby and wrinkled skin.
To correct these conditions of ageing, at Clinica Jóia we offer two cosmetic surgical procedures that may be easily combined; the face lift, also known as a ‘rhytidectomy’, and neck lift which is technically referred to as a ‘platysmaplasty’. Both of these procedures work to improve visible signs of ageing in the face and neck by tightening, lifting and satisfactorily rejuvenating the skin.
Due to the nature of the procedure, a consultation is required for personalised quotes
Proven Success
Typical Uses
Candidates should consider a face and neck lift if they are looking to treat:
- Sagging skin around the face and neck
- Deepening fold lines between the nose and corner of the mouth
- Fat that has fallen or has disappeared
- Jowls developing in the cheeks and jaw
- Loose skin and excess fat of the neck that can appear as a double chin or "turkey neck"
Whilst face and neck lifts hold a variety of advantages, opting for these procedures is a highly personal decision. You should only do it for yourself and never to fulfill someone else’s desires or to attempt to fit any sort of ideal image.
What It Entails
When getting a face and neck lift, the surgeon will assess your needs and suggest which approach will yield the best result for your case.
A traditional face-lift or neck-lift incision often begins in the hairline, at the temples for a face-lift and the sideburns for a neck-lift. This incision would continue around the ear and end in the lower scalp. On the other hand, a limited incision neck lift may only involve short incisions around the ear, whilst a limited incision face-lift – or ‘mini lift’ – has shorter incisions at the temples, continuing around the ear. Significantly, whilst the limited incision method uses shorter incisions the results will also be more limited.
After the incisions have been made, the fat is sculpted or redistributed from the face, jowls and neck, whilst the underlying tissue is repositioned. In general, the deeper layers of the face and the muscles are also lifted up to achieve a better facial contour. Finally, the skin is redraped and the incisions are closed up once again.
How It Works
1.During the consultation
If you are interested in getting a face and neck lift, you should start by booking a consultation with our plastic surgeon. During the consultation, you will be able to express what you are hoping to gain from a face and neck lift and, after reviewing your medical history, our doctor will be able to determine whether you are eligible to undergo this type of procedure. If you are a viable candidate, our doctor will outline the best course of treatment to ensure that you achieve optimal results.
2.During the procedure
During the surgical procedure, medications are first administered for your comfort during the surgical procedures. The choices include intravenous sedation and general anaesthesia, and your doctor will recommend the best choice for you prior to the surgery. Following sedation, the doctor will proceed with a traditional face and neck lift or a limited incision face and neck lift, depending on the level of change you seek. Once the desired changes have been made, the skin is redraped over the now refined contours and any excess skin is trimmed.
3.After the treatment
Post-surgery, a bandage might be wrapped around your face and neck to reduce swelling and bruising and small tubes may be used to draw out any excess blood or fluid. Most people start to recover their natural appearance after 10-14 days but it may take from two to three months for the face to feel “normal" in terms of texture, sensation and loss of tightness.

The surgeon will be able to determine if you are an ideal candidate. Typical candidates are over 55 years of age who do not smoke and lead a healthy lifestyle with no other medical conditions which would affect the end result of said surgery.
As a restorative surgery, whilst a facelift can certainly enhance your natural appearance it does not change your fundamental appearance, nor can it stop the aging process.
Whilst minimally invasive rejuvenation treatments do not require surgical intervention like a facelift does, they also cannot achieve the same results. These cosmetic treatments merely help to delay the time at which a facelift becomes appropriate and complement the results of surgery.
Follow-Up Procedures
As you recover from surgery, the doctor will continue reviewing your healing until satisfied with your progress and the expected end result is achieved.
