Pinnaplasty

We are all blessed with different facial features, some of us are born with beautifully small ears whilst others are blessed with a cute button nose. Naturally, there are always some aspects of our appearance which we would like to change. Luckily, being born with a specific facial feature does not mean it cannot be changed.

If you are bothered by the appearance of your ears in any way, at Clinica Jóia we offer the opportunity to alter them by means of a pinnaplasty, which is also referred to as an otoplasty or ear correction surgery. A pinnaplasty is a cosmetic surgical procedure that has been specifically designed to reshape and reposition your ears. Whether you wish them pinned back, reduced in size or are unhappy with their shape, this surgery will provide you with a solution that can help give you back your self-confidence and boost your self-image.

Due to the nature of the procedure, a consultation is required for personalised quotes

What It Entails

During a pinnaplasty, our plastic surgeon will work to correct the positioning of the ear. This is typically done by means of a small cut behind the ear through which the surgeon is able to make the required adjustments. When necessary, tiny pieces of the cartilage are removed and then stitches are made at the back of the ear to reshape and pull it closer towards the head.

How It Works

1.During the consultation

If you are interested in getting a pinnaplasty, you should start by booking a consultation with our plastic surgeon. During the consultation, you will be able to express what you hope to gain from this surgery and, after reviewing your medical history, our doctor will be able to determine whether you are eligible to undergo this type of procedure. If you are a viable candidate, our doctor will outline the best course of treatment to ensure that you achieve optimal results.

Prior to the surgery, you may be asked to get a medical evaluation, take certain medications or adjust your current medications, refrain from smoking and avoid ingesting drugs that may increase bleeding.

2.During the procedure

This surgery may be performed under local or general anaesthetic. If your procedure is performed under local anaesthetic you may be given a sedative to help you relax. Following sedation, a tiny incision is made behind the ear to expose the ear cartilage. A small piece of cartilage may be removed if necessary and stitches are made at the back of the ear to reshape and reposition it closer to the head.

This procedure typically last between 1 to 2 hours and, if local anaesthetic is used, you will be able to return home on the same day as the procedure.

3.After the treatment

Following your surgery, dressings or bandages may be applied to your incisions and you will not be able to wash your hair until this has been removed. For a number of weeks after the surgery, you might need to wear a headband at night to protect your ears as you sleep.
