CO2 Laser
To actively counteract the signs of ageing, the CO2 surgical laser procedure uses a high-powered laser to blend laser skin resurfacing and collagen rejuvenation in one single treatment. Able to expertly remove thin layers of skin whilst causing minimal damage to the surrounding structures, these powerful lasers are ideal for treating a variety of skin conditions from sun damage to scarring.
At Clinica Jóia, we pride ourselves on using the DEKA SmartXide DOT® laser technology, which is the only CO2 laser that works through combined pulsed and stacked emission. This technology is able to treat the most complex of clinical cases, whilst minimising the possibility of thermal damage and guaranteeing a rapid recovery.
Due to the nature of the procedure, a consultation is required for personalised quotes.

Typical Uses
The CO2 surgical laser treatment should be considered by clients looking to:
- reduce wrinkles, advanced sun damage, acne scars and pigmentation
- remove unwanted lesions such as moles, warts and skin tags.
Using a high-powered light beam, the SmartXide DOT® is used to vaporise specific segments of skin in order promote healing and skin rejuvenation. The heat from the laser beam also stimulates the production of new collagen resulting in tighter, more elastic, and younger looking skin post-procedure.
What It Entails
The SmartXide DOT® CO2 laser is directed toward the areas you wish to be treated. Using this powerful beam, our expert doctor will carefully remove layers of blemished or unhealthy skin tissue. This process encourages healthy tissue to grow back over the treated areas, leaving your skin looking beautifully rejuvenated and youthful.

Frequently Asked Questions
With CO2 laser treatment, the risk of side effects are minimal. Nevertheless, some may experience a slight burning sensation for a few hours after the treatment which can be minimised by using ice packs and cooling gels post-treatment. It is also possible to experience swelling, crusting, or redness and – more rarely -the skin may become hypo- or hyper-pigmented.
The results of the CO2 laser treatments are permanent and reduce the need for over the counter beauty products.
Fitzpatrick skin types IV and above are not considered as ideal candidates due to high presence of melanin but a consultation is always required to establish if you are a viable candidate for said treatment.
Follow-Up Procedures
To achieve maximum results, we recommend undergoing around 4 treatments, at 4 to 6 week intervals. However, this will vary according to the type of treatment needed, and therefore, this advice will be revised and tailored to your specific needs during the consultation process.
