CO2 Laser

To actively counteract the signs of ageing, the CO2 surgical laser procedure uses a high-powered laser to blend laser skin resurfacing and collagen rejuvenation in one single treatment. Able to expertly remove thin layers of skin whilst causing minimal damage to the surrounding structures, these powerful lasers are ideal for treating a variety of skin conditions from sun damage to scarring.

At Clinica Jóia, we pride ourselves on using the DEKA SmartXide DOT® laser technology, which is the only CO2 laser that works through combined pulsed and stacked emission. This technology is able to treat the most complex of clinical cases, whilst minimising the possibility of thermal damage and guaranteeing a rapid recovery.

Due to the nature of the procedure, a consultation is required for personalised quotes.

Typical Uses

The CO2 surgical laser treatment should be considered by clients looking to:

Using a high-powered light beam, the SmartXide DOT®  is used to vaporise specific segments of skin in order promote healing and skin rejuvenation. The heat from the laser beam also stimulates the production of new collagen resulting in tighter, more elastic, and younger looking skin post-procedure.

What It Entails

The SmartXide DOT® CO2 laser is directed toward the areas you wish to be treated. Using this powerful beam, our expert doctor will carefully remove layers of blemished or unhealthy skin tissue. This process encourages healthy tissue to grow back over the treated areas, leaving your skin looking beautifully rejuvenated and youthful.

How It Works

1.During the consultation

If you are interested in CO2 laser treatment, you should start by booking a consultation with our clinic doctor. During the consultation, you will be able to express what you are looking to achieve and our doctor will be able to determine whether you are eligible to undergo this type of procedure after reviewing your medical history. If you are a viable candidate, our doctor will then discuss an appropriate treatment plan with you to achieve optimal results.

2.During the procedure

On the day of the procedure, a local anaesthetic will be applied to the treatment area around 30-60 minutes before your appointment slot, giving it enough time to take effect. The treatment itself will last around 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the area and nature of the problem being treated.

3.After the treatment

Following CO2 laser treatment, your skin may take around 1 to 2 weeks to heal and resume its natural appearance. It is possible to experience side effects, such as a burning sensation, swelling, crusting, or redness. However, this is all part of the normal healing process and eventually this treatment will leave your skin looking better than ever. It is recommended that the patient uses sun protection and stays away from direct sun light to avoid developing any skin issues.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the side effects of this treatment?

With CO2 laser treatment, the risk of side effects are minimal. Nevertheless, some may experience a slight burning sensation for a few hours after the treatment which can be minimised by using ice packs and cooling gels post-treatment. It is also possible to experience swelling, crusting, or redness and – more rarely -the skin may become hypo- or hyper-pigmented.

Are CO2 laser results permanent?

The results of the CO2 laser treatments are permanent and reduce the need for over the counter beauty products.

How do I know if this is a good option for me?

Fitzpatrick skin types IV and above are not considered as ideal candidates due to high presence of melanin but a consultation is always required to establish if you are a viable candidate for said treatment.
